Local Telecom

While the historical understanding of "local telecom" is becoming obsolete (due to technological advances and other market forces), state regulators use intrastate or local classifications in order to effectively regulate telecommunications at the state level — even if the services wind up being part of a regional and/or national network.

Using a local, CAP, or CLEC designation may offer compliance, regulatory, and/or tax advantages to certain types of telecom providers. They may also come with compliance burdens that could be mitigated through an alternative market entry strategy.

We can help determine if your service falls within a local telecom classification. We can also procure the required licenses and/or registrations and guide your company's ongoing compliance. We can also advise on market entry strategies that maximize your company's ability to achieve its commercial goals while minimizing the regulatory consequences to the greatest extent possible, as permitted by law.
